By: Janai Crudup

Attention LLR readers, make sure you mark your calendars for the 3rd annual PESA Summit on March 4, 2013! This event is one you do not want to miss, especially if you are interested in entertainment, sports, fashion, music, television, or film. The event has grown to new heights this year with a whopping 400 expected students from over 15 different schools eager to learn more about the entertainment and sports industries and 50 professionals ready to share their tips and knowledge. Taking place at the University of Georgia’s Tate Grand Hall, the Summit will have a series of panels and workshops for students to attend. There are three different sections of panel discussions totaling three, but students will choose one discussion for each section.

Upon arrival, only the first 250 guests will receive a special “swag bag” but all guests will receive breakfast. Following breakfast will be the opening keynote address by Coleman Breland the chief operating officer of Turner Network Sales. Breland is also over the domestic distribution, sales and marketing of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. This keynote address will be one you do not want to miss.

In the first session one can choose to attend “College vs. Professional Sports”, “Fashion Exposed”, or “Crossroads: Professionals Who Do It All.” Panelists in these sessions vary from Jeff Morander, the vice president of the National Hockey League, to Randi Layne, the president of Catwalk Productions.

The Current State of the Film Industry”, “International Entertainment”, and “Off the Strip: Nontraditional Entertainment Careers” are panels that can be found in the second session. Speakers such as Angie Simmons the executive vice president of multichannel platforms at QVC and Howard Berzack the sponsorship and events manager at United Parcel Service will be on speaking during this session.

In the final session students have the option of attending “The New Music Business”, “The Offer”, and “The Marketing and Communications of the Show Biz”. Attendees are able to hear people like the CEO of Grand Hustle, Jason Geter, and the human resources director for the Atlanta Braves Lara Juras, along with many others.

Finally the event will end with a closing keynote address by Bob Williams who is the President for the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena. This will surely be a great way to end an amazing event. There is no question attendees will leave with more connections with professionals and more knowledge in the industries of interest.

Now that you know all about what the Summit is and who will be there, here is why you should be in attendance to this year’s Summit.

1. Meet students who are interested in the same things as you. Often time’s students forget that at events like the Summit you get to interact with more than just professionals who are in your field of interest, you also get the opportunity to meet other students who are striving to be in the same field. Connect with these students because one day you might end up doing business together in your field of choice!

2. This could result in unexpected opportunities. You never know, you could connect with an industry professional that see’s something special in you and wants to give you the opportunity to intern or work for their company. Just come with the best you and anything is possible!

3. Learn from professionals who have the positions you want or can explain how to achieve your career goals. Knowledge is everything and the speakers at the Summit have lots of tips to share with you. They are eager to share how they got their positions and give you suggestions on how to get the position you want! If you decide to attend at least you will leave with a better understanding of the entertainment and sports industries and what can beat that?
